Commonly known to some as Abitino’s Pizza in Cocoa Beach, this little pizza spot is today referred to as A NY Pizza House and is now located along A1A, near Ron Jon’s Surf Shop.
We earlier named this local restaurant one of our Best Pizza Spots in Cocoa Beach, and rightfully so. With other local spots like Anacapri Pizzaria and Papa Vito’s Italian and Pizza nearby, what sets this spot apart from the others? Well for starters, I’ve never seen such huge pizza slices before. A friend and I ordered a Jumbo (half cheese, half margherita with chicken), and upon picking it up, I was handed not one, but two large boxes. I thought she may have given me the wrong order, but indeed that was ours. If it came in two boxes for pick up, I can’t imagine the pan that would sit at the table if dining in.
Their dining area was a bit small but serves its purpose. From what I hear, a lot of their business comes from selling pizza by slice. Being located right across from the beach and close by all of the Cocoa Beach hotels, it’s easy to grab a quick lunch or snack before heading out for the day.
So how was it? Well coming from the Midwest, I’m a bit more partial to thicker crust pizzas, but my half (the margherita), was all in all, pretty good. I like NY style pizza simply for the fact that I get full, without the miserable carb-overload from thicker crusts. I could tell that they used real slices of mozzarella, the basil and tomatoes seemed fresh, and extra chicken added remained juicy and tender.
Coming from New York, however, my friend loved it. It’s hard to compare pizza in Florida to that of up North, but it ranks as one of his favorites so far. He’d prefer I quote him with, “It was so good, I darn near ate the whole thing myself.” And for the record, he technically did. I was stuffed after a slice and a half.
