Merritt Island | Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese at Wabi Sabi

I kept hearing great things about this mysterious restaurant in Merritt Island – where the heck was Wabi Sabi and what was it all about?

I had driven by a couple times but barely noticed it in passing. It wasn’t until a stop at BB McGuire’s across the street, that I had a chance to take a better look at it. More and more people started talking about it, so I decided to pop in and grab a Wabi Sabi menu to check out before hand.

Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. Driving by, I admit, I may have not pulled in to grab a bite to eat. It has a darker exterior and when you’re trying to drive down the already busy Courtenay Parkway, chances are that you’re going to miss it. When you do walk in though, it’s a whole new world. Featuring a semi modern interior, it almost has an upscale feel – something not found with many Chinese, Japanese or Vietnamese restaurants these days (unless you’re in a larger city).

The image on the left was snapped by a friend of mine on a recent trip into the restaurant. These are their Monkey Thumbs. They are half of a jalapeno stuffed with spicy tuna, then tempura battered and fried. I’ve heard more than one raving review for these guys, and they even have Monkey Brains and Tails.

If you’re thinking of trying out Wabi Sabi soon and you love sushi, be sure to visit on a Monday night – when they have their all you can eat sushi special! Bring all your friends and sample multiple kinds off of their huge menu. You may even choose to dine outdoors in their great little outdoor eating area. Not going to be in town on a Monday? They have other nightly specials – give them a call before stopping by.
